Distribution
Introduction
Ruddy Quail-Dove is widespread in the lowlands of the Neotropics, from northern Mexico south, west of the Andes, to southwestern Ecuador, and, east of the Andes, to northeastern Argentina and southern Brazil. It also occurs throughout the Greater Antilles, and in the Lesser Antilles on the larger forested islands, except for Bardados, south to Grenada.
In Mexico Ruddy Quail-Dove occurs north to southern Sinaloa and to southern Tamaulipas (28, 29, 9) . On the Pacific slope, the distribution extends south to central El Salvador (30), but it appears to be absent from southern El Salvador and is absent or very local on the Pacific slope of Nicaragua. Central America in occurs on both slopes from Mexico south to El Salvador (9). It is present only on the Atlantic slope of Honduras and Nicaragua, as well as in Costa Rica and Panama; the distribution on the Pacific slope resumes in southern Costa Rica (31, 9).
