Priorities for Future Research

Introduction

Gray-crowned Woodpecker is a very poorly studied Neotropical bird. A priority for research is to obtain life history, demographic, and ecological information on the species: there is almost no information on its diet or reproductive biology, nor on such topics as life span and survivorship, dispersal, population regulation, territoriality, and population density. This is a species of high concern to Mexico and it appears to be vulnerable to human disturbance, so it would be beneficial to collect data on how Gray-crowned Woodpecker responds to particular kinds of disturbance.
