Demography and Populations
Introduction
Longevity
There are records that this owl can live at least four years (e.g., a female captured as an adult in July 1998 and recaptured in August 2001). Another female lived at least 2.67 years (captured in July 1997 and recaptured in January 1999).
Population regulation
The number of owls varies spatially in the highlands of Chiapas, where they are found in humid montane forests, but also are recorded in disturbed habitats of pine but associated with pristine environments . This species has also been recorded perching during the day at forest edge (Enriquez and Cheng 2007).
