Demography and Populations

In winter flocks, 40-50% of individuals are first year birds. Of 9 birds which were netted, Raitt and Hardy found 4 adults, 3 first years and 2 second year birds. (Raitt and Hardy 1976). No distinction of third year birds was made. Studies of banded birds could perhaps yield more data in this area.
