Distinguishing Characteristics

35.5 - 38.0 cm. 535 -766 g. Body bright green. Yellow eyes with a complete white eye ring. Yellow nape and fore crown. Strong bill grey and curved. Margins of flight feathers blackish to blue-violet. Central part of flight feathers red. Tail green with margins yellow-green. Feathers covering legs yellow. Legs gray. Both sexes alike. Juveniles resemble adults but nape and fore crown are less bright and lack red feathers in wings.

Similar Species

The Mealy Parrot (Amazona farinosa), but color in fore crown and crown is only blue. The Yellow-headed Parrot (Amazona oratrix) has all head yellow.
