Priorities for Future Research

The life history and ecology of both populations of White-throated Mountain-gem need to be further studied. Useful studies could focus on molt, reproductive biology, and vocalizations produced by this species. There is no information about demography, life span, survivorship, parasitism, or population regulation for this species. Population size and population trend are not known. There is also a need for further assessments of the conservation status of this hummingbird in most of its range and the selection pressures acting on isolated populations.
