Diet and Foraging

White-throated Mountain-gem feeds on both nectar and small arthropods (Wetmore 1968, Remsen et al. 1986, Stiles and Skutch 1989). It has been reported feeding on flowers of Cavendishia sp., Satyria sp. (Aricaceae), Centropogon sp. (Campanulaceae), and Alloplectus sp. (Gesneriaceae) (Stiles and Skutch 1989).

Foraging Behavior

When feeding on arthropods, White-throated Mountain-gem apparently gleans them from branches and leaves (Wetmore 1968). In addition, this species also visits artificial hummingbird feeders.
