Distribution in the Americas

It is distributed in the tropical Atlantic, central Pacific and Indian Ocean; it is accidental in the Gulf of Mexico, and there are records in Chiapas and Guatemala.

It is common in the southeastern United States coast, uncommon in the Gulf of Mexico, common in breeding sites in Bermuda, the Bahamas and the Greater and Lesser Antilles. The global population is estimated at 50,000 individuals.
