White-tipped Quetzal Pharomachrus fulgidus

Priorities for Future Research

The white-tipped quetzal has been a limited research subject. Many reports, such as nesting studies, are based on single observations. As such, any research will extend the current body of knowledge. Several gaps arose in the literature search which could be of potential future interest:

1) Is the white-tipped quetzal a primary cavity-nester, or a secondary cavity-nester? If secondary, what primary species excavations are used?

2) What are common predators of white-tipped quetzals and their nests?

3) Is the white-tipped quetzal an altitudinal migrant? If so, what are the factors influencing that migration?
