Demography and Populations

With one exception, Pharomachrus quetzals are subjected to the same parasites as common parasites of song birds or pigeons in the same general area. Ornithoctona nitens, of tropical America, appears to be a specific parasite of the Trogonidae (Bequaert 1953; Hicks 1959).
