Distribution in the Americas

It is distributed from Mexico to El Salvador. In Mexico in the Pacific slope from southern Sonora to Chiapas and in the lowlands of the Gulf of Mexico, from southern Veracruz to the low lands of the Yucatan Peninsula.

It is a resident species considered from common to lees common along its distributional range that has been calculated in approximately 550,000 km2; its population range has not been estimated.

It can be found between 0 and 1800 m asl in deciduous and semideciduous forests, open areas, riparian sites and mangroves. Some reports of individuals outside their distribution from Coahuila, and Mexico City probably represent escapes from captivity.
