Conservation Status

The White-crested Elaeina is common and widespread. It is listed as a species of “Least Concern” by BirdlLife International (2008) and of “Low Conservation Priority” by Parker et al. (1996).

Effects of human activity on populations

The White-crested Elaenia probably is relatively little affected by human activities. A species that occupies forest edge and second-growth, it is likely that this species is relatively tolerant of habitat disturbance. That said, at least a portion of the population winters in northeastern Brazill, a region that has undergone widespread habitat loss due to conversion of natural habitats to agriculture. The extent to which this human activity has affected populations of White-crested Elaenia is not known.
