Priorities for Future Research

Despite the rarity and lack of information of the Viridian Dacnis, this species is of Medium Conservation Priority (Parker et al. 1996), and is listed by the IUCN as Near Threatened (BirdLife International 2016). Further research could elucidate the appropriateness of these designations. Parker et al. (1996) list the research priority for the Viridian Dacnis as "high" compared to other Neotropical birds. Currently, almost nothing is known about the habitat requirements and life history of this species. Further, the phylogenetic relationships within Dacnis are largely unresolved, and this radiation would benefit from phylogenomic analyses (Burns et al. 2014).
