Viridian Dacnis Dacnis viguieri

  • Order: Passeriformes
  • Family: Thraupidae
  • Monotypic
  • Authors: Morgan Reed, Casey H. Richart, and Kevin J. Burns

Diet and Foraging

The diet of Viridian Dacnis is documented, but presumably it is omnivorous, as are related species such as Blue Dacnis (Dacnis cayana), feeding on a mix of insects, small fruit, and nectar.

Foraging Behavior

There is very little information on the foraging behavior of Viridian Dacnis. It occupies the canopy of humid forest (Hilty and Brown 1986, Ridgely and Gwynne 1989), and has been observed feeding in flowering Enterolobium and Erythrina trees (Ridgely and Gwynne 1989).
