Distribution in the Americas

It is distributed from southern Mexico to the east of Peru, east of Bolivia, Brazil and formerly in Jamaica. In Mexico it is registered in Oaxaca, Veracruz and Chiapas.

It is a resident species frequent to lees frequent in Mexico. In Guatemala it is described as a rare species. It has been calculated that the distributional range of this species is of 1,600,000 km2, and global population has not been estimated.

It inhabits flooded forests in lowlands from the sea level to 1000 m.
