Tufted Tit-Tyrant has a very broad geographic distribution, and its population is believed to be stable. Consequently its IUCN Red List conservation status is rated as Least Concern (Birdlife International 2012).

The relative abundance of Tufted Tit-Tyrant usually is assessed as fairly common or common (Fjeldså and Krabbe 1990, Ridgely and Greenfield 2001a, Jaramillo 2003, Schulenberg et al. 2010).
