Tropical Kingbird is extremely widespread and is common; consequently its IUCN Red List status is rates Least Concern, with an increasing population trend (IUCN 2012).

Effects of human activity on populations

The geographic range and abundance of Tropical Kingbird likely have expanded with such human activities as deforestation and the construction of roads through forest (Fjeldså and Krabbe 1990).
