When looking for food, it skims water, grabs prey with bill, and ingests while in flight.

In light winds, flight buoyant with loose, flicking wing beats, wings pressed slightly forward and slightly bent backward in the section closest to the back. Make prolonged leisurely glides on bowed wings. A far as the wind speed increases, flight with bowed wings becomes more erratic and more abrupt.
