Legend Overview
Introduction
The Speckle-breasted Wren is a distinctive Pheugopedius wren of northwestern South America. Found in northwestern Peru, southwestern Ecuador, and western Colombia, the species inhabits the undergrowth of a variety of forest types between 1300 and 2000 meters in elevation. It is dull rufous-brown above and white below with black spots or bars on the cheeks, chest, and upper flanks, a buffy wash to the rear flanks, and a black-barred tail. Rather easy to see for a member of the genus Pheugopedius, the Speckle-breasted Wren is often found in pairs and can be found by listening for its fast, unmusical, repetitive song or abrasive call notes.
