Sounds and Vocal Behavior

Vocalizations

The voice of the Social Flycatcher is characterized by various loud screams, rapid twittering and bickering phrases (del Hoyo et al. 2004). Typical vocalizations include 1-2 sharp notes preceding a buzzy trill described as tseep, brit-buweeerr or a piercing chi-wiww (Angehr and Dean 2010). Harsh calls are described as kreeoouw with chattered ti-ti-ti-tichew (Angehr and Dean 2010).

Nonvocal Sounds

Noisy wing-fluttering in flight is thought to be a display behavior (del Hoyo et al. 2004).
