Conservation status: Least Concern (www.iucnredlist.org, accessed 15 Jan 2011). Although the Scintillant Hummingbird has a small range and appears to prefer a specific elevation range and habitat within that range, it readily utilizes human-modified habitats (i.e., gardens and agriculture).
Effects of human activity on populations
The Scintillant Hummingbird does not appear to be threatened by land use change, as human activity tends to produce its preferred habitats and food sources. Climate change may cause shifts (e.g. uphill) in the distribution of food plants and/or its preferred habitat. But, as it occupies mid-elevation ranges, there is scope for habitat to shift uphill, meaning climate change does not pose an apparent threat to the Scintillant either.
