Diet and Foraging


They feed mainly on arthropods, crabs, mollusks, frogs, water snakes, seeds and fleshy (berries) and palm fruits. In Costa Rica an individual was observed, eating crab parts found in raccoon feces (Procyon lotor). They also eat eggs and juveniles of turtle.
