Russet-naped Wood-Rail Aramides albiventris



Distinguishing Characteristics

38 cm. 460 g. Iris red. Bright greenish yellow bill. Head and neck gray, washed with dark brown on hindcrown and nape. White throat, cinnamon rufous on chest and flanks. Black on belly, rump and tail. Legs coral-red. Males and females are similar. Immatures are similar to adults but belly sooty-black, flecked with buff.

Similar Species

Rufous-necked Wood-Rail (Aramides axillaris) is slightly smaller, has reddish head and neck, gray upper back and ventral parts.
