Priorities for Future Research

Anecdotal observations suggest that nestling mortality from myiasis (infestation of living tissue by fly larvae) is a major factor in nest failure, but the effect of myiasis on reproductive success and population growth remains unquantified. Comparisons of parasitism rates, survival, and reproductive success between the native Los Haitises and experimental Puntacana population are needed.
