Introduction

Restinga Tyrannulet is a Brazilian endemic that was formally described in the early 1990s (1), but the first specimen was actually collected in 1898 by Ricardo Krone, for whom the species is named. Its plumage is similar to other Phylloscartes tyrannulets, being dull above with a faint yellowish supercilium, blackish eyestripe, yellowish underparts, and pale yellowish wing bars, outer fringes of remiges, and tertial spots. Restinga Tyrannulet is largely restricted to restinga habitat (coastal sand-ridge), but also occurs inland into foothills. Restinga Tyrannulet ranges from São Paulo south to northern Rio Grande do Sul. It forages on small insects by sallying and gleaning, and is often found alone or in pairs, rarely associating with mixed species flocks.
