Distinguishing Characteristics

32.0 - 35.5 cm. 314 - 485 g. Bright green body. Yellow eye with borders pale grey. Blue nape, bluish crown. Thick bill from marfil to brown. Yellow dot below the eye. Head and auriculars brilliant green. Borders of wing flight feathers violet-blue to blackish. Central part of wing flight feathers red very notorious when flying. Tail green with feather tips yellow-greenish. Grey legs. Sexes alike. Juveniles resemble adults but eyes are brown and the yellow under-eye dot is little or absent.

Similar Species

Red-crowned Parrot (Amazona viridigenalis), but this species has nape and crown red and pale blue only obove eyes and in the neck sides. It lacks the yellow dot bellow the eye. El Mealy Parrot (Amazona farinosa), but this has a white eyering and crown and nape blue. The Yellow-headed Parrot (Amazona oratrix), but this has yellow head and looks bigger.
