Vocalizations

The call of the Masked Cardinal can either be a sharp "tchep" or a soft "chuép" (ffrench 1991; Hilty 2003; htttp://www.xeno-canto.org/227222). The song is described as a seriesseries of whistled phases "ptchiu wheet pt pt chiu chiieuw wheet chiu chiieer wheet pt ot chiu" (Jaramillo 2011) (http://macaulaylibrary.org/audio/63350). The vocalizations of the Masked Cardinal is said to differ from its previous conspecific P. gularis.
