The Masked Cardinal is found in a variety of moist habitats such as wet savannas, and edges of gallery forest near water (ffrench 1991, Restall et al. 2007, Jaramillo 2011). This species can also be found in open habitats and spaces such as car parks (Restall et al. 2007, Jaramillo 2011). Found from sea levels up to 300 meters (Restall et al. 2007).
