Distribution
Introduction
The Purplish Jay ranges from southeastern Peru and northern and eastern Bolivia to
Paraguay, southwestern Brazil and northern Argentina (Ridgely and Tudor 1989, de Pinho et al. 2005).
The elevational range of the Purplish Jay extends from the lowlands up to 2000 m (Parker et al. 1996).
Endemic to the Americas.
Historical Changes to the Distribution
Deforestation is Brazil has allowed the Purplish Jay to expand its range eastward (Madge and Burn 1994). One exceptional sighting placed a Purplish Jay in Sao Paulo in 1987, but such extremes are rare (Willis and Oniki 1993).
