Priorities for Future Research

The Prong-billed Barbet occupies a small geographic area, but is a common bird within its range. Nonetheless, many aspects of its natural history are very poorly known. The little information on breeding comes from only a few nests, from a single observer. Similarly, there is only limited information on the diet of this species. Finally, there is no information on such topics as age at first breeding, life span and survivorship, dispersal, population regulation, molts, territoriality and population density, and sexual behavior of the Prong-billed Barbet.
