Pacific Elaenia Myiopagis subplacens Scientific name definitions

Pacific Elaenia is a small flycatcher of the Pacific lowlands of northwestern South America. This species is restricted to western Ecuador and northwestern Peru, where it inhabits lower levels of woodland and scrub below 1500 m in elevation. Pacific Elaenia is olive above with a white supercilium and throat, dingy gray underparts, and dull wings with yellowish secondary edges. This elaenia is similar in appearance to the sympatric implacens subspecies of Greenish Elaenia (Myiopagis viridicata), but Pacific is more olive brown on the head with a more obvious white supercilium. Pacific Elaenia can be detected by its explosive three part call, which is repeated frequently. Although this species is fairly common within its range, the biology of Pacific Elaenia is very poorly known.
