Priorities for Future Research

Almost all aspects of the biology of the Pale-billed Woodpecker remain unknown or poorly known. There are no quantitative data on territory size, population density, or any aspects of the demography of this species. Such data increasingly will become important as lowland forests become even more fragmented. Similarly, although several nests of this woodpecker have been reported, most aspects of the breeding biology of the Pale-billed Woodpecker remain undocumented.
