Distribution in the Americas

Oasis Hummingbird occurs on the west coast of Peru and Chile. In Peru it occurs along almost the entire coast and west slope of the Andes, north to Piura. The range extends south to Santiago, Chile (see also Historical Changes). This species is believed to be resident in most of its range, although Johnson (1967) suggested that it may undertake seasonal elevational movements in northern Chile.

Oasis Hummingbird occurs from near sea level up to 3800 m (Schulenberg et al. 2010), although in northern and central Peru it primarily occurs at lower elevations (below ca 2600 m).

Distribution outside the Americas

Endemic to the Americas.

Oasis Hummingbird occupies arid scrub (including the fog vegetation of coastal lomas), riparian thickets, agricultural areas, and gardens (Johnson 1967, Fjeldså and Krabbe 1990, Jaramillo 2003).
