Distinguishing Characteristics

38.0 - 43.0 cm. 535 -766 g. Body brilliant green. Eyes reddish with a white eye ring. Blue crown that becomes less brilliant towards nape. Strong bill dark grayish. Borders of the wing flight feathers blackish to violet-blue. Central part of the wing flight feathers red, especially notorious when flying. Tail green with the tip of the feathers yellow-greenish. Grey legs. Sexes alike. Juveniles resemble adults but with the blue in the crown paler.

Similar Species

Red-lored Parrot (Amazona autumnalis) has red in crown and a yellow dot below the eye.
