Distribution in the Americas

It distributes in southeastern Veracruz, northeastern Oaxaca and western Chiapas, but is common only on Sierra de Los Tuxtlas in Veracruz.

Apparently it is a resident species, but is believed to make altitudinal movements following the flowering. Its distributional range has been calculated in approximately 30,200 km2 and global population has not been quantified.

It inhabits in primary forest, second growth, edges and clearings of forest. Usually in lowlands, typically from sea level to 1300 m asl.
