BirdLife International and the IUCN Red List both classify the Long-tailed Manakin as a species of Least Concern (BirdLife International, IUCN). It is not mentioned on any of the appendices of CITES, the Convention on International Trade Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
Effects of human activity on populations
Nothing is known about human affects on Long-tailed Manakin populations. Anciães and Peterson (2003), however, used ecological niche modeling to predict that Long-tailed Manakins would experience a 62% loss of habitat in the next 50 years due to human-induced climate change.
