Diet and Foraging

There is surprisingly little information on the diet of Lesser Roadrunner. Probably this species feeds on a variety of large arthropods and small vertebrates. One of the few definite reports on the diet are observations of grasshoppers (Orthoptera) in the stomachs of collected specimens (Dickey and van Rossem 1938); also takes caterpillars (larval Lepidoptera) (Payne 2005).
