Leach’s Storm-Petrel is a large storm-petrel, whose dark plumage is relieved only by the pale upperwing bar and variably pale rump patch; the tail is moderately forked. This species breeds in both the North Atlantic and North Pacific Oceans. but it winters much farther south, reaching waters off of Peru in the Pacific Ocean and to South Africe in the Atlantic. During the nonbreeding season, the species is primarily pelagic, generally only being found close inshore during storms. Leach's Storm-Petrel feeds on crustacea, small fish and small invertebrates, taken on the surface, and it sometimes follows cetaceans while foraging.
