Sounds and Vocal Behavior

Vocalizations

The colonies are very loud and the melodious whistles and incessant calls ‘kee-kee-kee’ and ‘ki-wee ki-wee’ (Fjeldså and Krabbe 1990) of the grebe are a constant feature. The call has been described as an extended whistle phrase ‘te-whreee-errr’ of rolling quality (Fjeldså and Krabbe 1990). Both vocalizations can be heard in recording XC20592.

Nonvocal Sounds

None reported.
