Distinguishing Characteristics

23 cm. Fairly long. Upperparts blackish brown, with a paler bar on upperwings. Rump with a white patch and a median darker line extends to lateral feathers. Underparts slightly paler than upperparts. Tail moderately forked. Males and females are similar.

Similar Species

Leach´s Storm-Petrel (Oceanodroma leucorhoa) has the lower lining of wing darker but it is very difficult to differentiate.
