Priorities for Future Research

The Green Violetear is a common and widespread species, yet there are large knowledge gaps on much of its life history. Future research is needed in the area of population demography, such as age at first breeding, life span, survivorship, dispersal, and population regulation. Most of what little is known about its breeding is based on a small number of observations, from the northern portion of its distribution. Much remains to be discovered about individual and geographic variation in song, and about song learning in the Green Violetear.
