There are no published demographic studies of this species. Population trends are reportedly stable (Birdlife International 2017).

At Milpe Bird Sanctuary in Ecuador, an area of 100 ha contained a lek of at least 39 distinct color-banded males and 21 distinct color-banded females across 4 years.
