Distribution in the Americas

This species of Chlorophonia is limited to the mountains of Costa Rica and Western Panama. Normally at elevations between 300 m-1200 m. It is rarely above 1500 m. It appears to occasionally wander into the lowlands on the Caribbean side near the tropical belt.

Distribution outside the Americas

Only found in the Americas.


This species inhabits the edges and canopy of montane rainforest. It is also found in tree studded openings in the montane forest. When their food is scarce the species may descend to lower altitudes into the Caribbean foothills.
