Distribution in the Americas

The Guianan Cock-of-the-rock is resident in northeastern South America. It occurs from extreme eastern Colombia, east through southern Venezuela and northern Brazil to the Guianas and Amapá, northeastern Brazil.

The elevational range occupied by the Guianan Cock-of-the-rock is from 300-2000 m (Hilty and Brown 1986, Hilty 2003).

Distribution outside the Americas

Endemic to the Americas.


The Guianan Cock-of-the-rock inhabits damp, highly humid forests. They primarily are found in forest areas near rocky outcrops, especially along rocky streams. They are also found at isolated rocky outcrops in sandy-belt forests (Hilty and Brown 1986.)
