Green-and-gold Tanager occurs in western Amazonia, from southeastern Colombia east to southeastern Venezuela and central Amazonian Brazi, and south to northern Bolivia.
Green-and-gold Tanager is restricted to the lowlands. The upper elevational range in Colombia is ca 500 m (Hilty and Brown 1986); in Venezuela, up to 900 m (Hilty 2003); in Ecuador it occurs mostly below 1100 m, but locally up to 1500-1600 m (Ridgely and Greenfield 2001a); it occurs up to 1600 m in Peru (Weske 1972, Schulenberg et al. 2010); and in northern Bolivia it also ranges up to 1600, although in Cochabamba and western Santa Cruz its occurs only up to ca 600 m (Herzog et al. 2016).
