Ecuadorian Piedtails are listed as “near threatened” in their small range—their population is thought to be declining due to loss of habitat. They prefer the interior and edge of humid forests and second growth in the Andean foothills. When searching for food, birds fly low inside the forests and usually cling to flowers when feeding. These hummingbirds are indentified by the two white bands on the tail—one at the base and one at the bottom—and by the white band across the chest and neck.
