Distribution
Introduction
Ecuadorian Piculet is resident in southwestern Ecuador and northwestern Peru. The distribution in Ecuador is disjunct: it occurs from central Manabí south to western Guayas, and then again in El Oro and Loja (Ridgely and Greenfield 2001). This southern population is continuous with that in Peru, where the species occurs south to northern Lambayeque (Bond 1954, Schulenberg et al. 2010).
The elevational range of Ecuadorian Piculet is from the lowlands up to 1500-1700 m in Ecuador, althouth it primarily occurs below 800 m (Ridgely and Greenfield 2001a); and up to 1800 m in Peru (Schulenberg et al. 2010), although it probably occurs mostly below 1200 m.
Endemic to the Americas.
