Dusky Hummingbird has a large geographic range, and its IUCN Red List conservation status is assessed as of Least Concern (BirdLife International 2013). Dusky Hummingbird is not considered threatened under Mexican law. Dusky Hummingbird is included in Appendix II of CITES, as is the case with all hummingbirds, regardless of rarity (except for Hook-billed Hermit Glaucis dohrnii, which is on Appendix I of CITES).

Effects of human activity on populations

Human activity probably has little short term effect on Dusky Hummingbird; no threats are identified by BirdLife International (2013).
