Dotted Tanager Ixothraupis varia

Sounds and Vocal Behavior

The call is extra high pitched, which is composed of “tic” notes and “sisisi” (Perlo 2009). Calls are similarly to other tanagers that are part of Group 6 (refer to Systematics), with the calls described as a high-pitched “tic” or “chip” singly given, delivered in a chipping series or a twittering series, or accelerated into trills that are likely their song (Isler and Isler 1987).

Additional audio recordings of vocalizations of the Dotted Tanager can be heard at Macaulay Library and xeno-canto.
