Conservation Status

Dark-billed Cuckoo is considered to be fairly common throughout its expansive range and populations appear to be stable, although no quantitative data is available. For these reasons, the Dark-Billed Cuckoo is considered a species of Least Concern (BirdLife International 2012).

Effects of human activity on populations

There is anectdotal evidence of a cuckoo population decline on San Cristobal Island in the Galápagos, which may be due to the introduction of exotic diseases into the Galapagos Islands (Gottdenker et al. 2008).
